Get to know the teacher!

Mrs. April

Hello, I am the founder and teacher at The Little Barnyard Preschool. I have been a resident of Esko most of my life. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. I first started working with children at the age of fifteen when I started babysitting children around Esko. During high school, I was a program assistant at the Cool Kids center in Esko. I worked at a Tutor Time Learning Center as a Preschool Teacher for three years while earning my college degree. At the end of my schooling, I student taught in a preschool classroom at the Shirley G. Moore Lab School on the University campus. This is where my teaching became most influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach. Once I graduated, I completed a summer internship at The Children’s Farm in Stillwater, MN.
I taught several preschool summer camp classes there. After moving back to Esko, I was a preschool teacher in Duluth for two years.

During my time at The Children's Farm, I learned many wonderful ways to teach children in a natural setting and knew I wanted to open my own nature based preschool. I started The Little Barnyard Preschool in September of 2014, and have found this a very fulfilling and rewarding experience!
